GIRONA CAMP
Hey Everyone!
Checking in from the cycling renowned city of Girona.
I flew over here last Sunday to grab a few belongings, see old friends, and get in a week of good training before my racing calendar kicks off fully in April. I’m just getting over some jet lag but a few days of rest before travel allows me to dive right into quality training (sorry to miss TUK last week). My past two days have been on the road bike and switching gears today as I head to the trails.
This week marks my final big push before I ease into a taper, gearing up for a series of back-to-back race weekends looming large on my calendar. I’ll head home next Monday, just in time to fine-tune before I head to Sunny King Crit on April 13. This event is a juggernaut in the US scene, boasting one of the most substantial prize purses around.
Following that, my sights are set on Monterey for the Sea Otter Classic’s early season highlight: the Fuego XL 100km. My first big outing on the mountain bike, it’s shaping up to be an exhilarating challenge, and I couldn't be more thrilled to tackle it head-on.
It is a wild feeling to be back in the place I lived for the past 3 years. My European life revolved around Girona, and undoubtedly it holds a special place in my heart.
Amidst the nostalgia, I find myself realizing I don't yearn for my old life here. Instead, I'm filled with profound excitement for the new year ahead. My family, my work, my new calendar, and the vibrant community I represent in Atlanta await me with open arms.
It's a wild feeling, navigating this transition between past and present, but I embrace it wholeheartedly. Here’s to embracing the future with optimism, gratitude, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Extremely excited to tune in to Paris-Roubaix this Sunday. Junior Roubaix marked one of the pivotal milestones in my budding classics journey with Team USA. I rode away solo, riding the final 85km alone and entering every sector alone with same exuberant crowds that fill the later professional race. I was caught just a few kilometers from the line and came in for fourth. I’ll be back someday. For now, happy with my legs up watching from the TV.
Happy riding,
MG
