ToAD Check In
Hey everyone!
Checking in from the vibrant and historic city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I flew up here on Monday morning after an amazing ride on Sunday with a fantastic crew. We had a perfect morning, starting earlier than usual at 8 AM, beating the heat!
Upon arriving in Milwaukee, I took the rest of the day to unwind, go for a spin, and settle in. I'm staying at a friend's rental property that's up for sale, so it's completely vacant – just me and my airbed! The minimalist vibe here is fantastic and makes it super easy to get out and about for the races. We considered racing on Monday night, but since the venue was over two hours away from the city, we decided to take it easy and get settled instead.
I kicked things off last night in the charming town of Cedarburg. The course featured a longer-than-usual loop, over a mile with gentle turns, making for a super-fast but somewhat uneventful race. I managed to make some good moves, always countering off the prime sprint laps. Unfortunately, I bent a chain link in the final laps, and my bike wouldn’t hold a gear, forcing me out of the race.
Today was a different story! A road race style event: seven laps of a five-mile loop far south of Milwaukee on an exceptionally windy day. The race was full throttle from the start, with teams exploiting the heavy crosswinds to try and break up the group. I pushed hard repeatedly until a group of four of us finally broke away. We rotated smoothly, and the gap held steady. The moto official kept us updated on the time gaps, and though small groups occasionally seemed to be closing in, the gaps always widened again. We eventually dropped one rider, leaving three of us for the final stretch. Despite my best efforts and several attacks, I didn’t have enough snap today. We came to the line as a trio, and I was beaten in the sprint by a former Olympian on the track. Super happy with another day on a podium.
We go again tomorrow in Bayview! Hoping to carry some good momentum.
Happy Riding!
