Milwaukee Memories
+SPEEDCLUB MEDIA
Resident pro, MG, has just returned from the thrilling Tour of America’s Dairyland, an 11-days series of races centered around Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Despite racing only the final 6 days, MG’s presence was nothing short of electrifying.
As many know, Michael races with all his heart. While only one podium was taken in the week, he animated absolutely every race he entered. The courses, known for their fast and flat nature, presented a unique challenge, proving just a bit too fast and flowy for his one-man leg stomping affair.
Don’t be fooled; MG didn’t just ride; he animated every race, spending an abundance of time off the front and collecting a fair share of Dairyland's infamous large cash primes. His moves brought excitement and awe to spectators, putting his passion for racing to the fore.
We are immensely thankful to those who helped Michael find a place to stay, and made him feel so at home. The community of Shorewood welcomed him like a family member, cheering him every lap at their home-town race, and celebrating him (face-painting included) after. We can’t get over these photos of MG and the kids!
MGR CORNER
I am back home in Atlanta for a few short days after an unforgettable time up north at the Tour of America’s Dairyland. I returned Monday night, still buzzing from an incredibly special experience. The racing had its frustrating moments- flat, wide courses that often ended in big bunch sprints. The fields were massive and the average speeds were off the charts, making it tough to shake things up in my usual style.
Despite the challenges, I had an absolute blast every night, giving it my all and animating each race. I came tantalizingly close to a few wins, sneaking away in the finale but just falling short of the speed I needed. I was super happy to step on the podium on Wednesday, blowing things up on a wildly hectic cross-wind day.
As mentioned above, what made the week truly special was the incredible support from the community. I entered the series as a bike racer and left feeling like part of a family. A heartfelt shoutout to the Leick family in Shorewood, who welcomed me with open arms. They provided housing and meals, came to support at multiple races (their home Shorewood race hosting a big corner party!), and most importantly showing genuine care and kindness. Their warmth and generosity made this experience unforgettable.
I’m home just until Thursday night before heading out to Boise for one more race and after that a nice break. Boise Twilight is a very fast course typically favoring the sprinters but I’m still excited to see what I can do. My girlfriend and her family will be out there, so no pressure!! Saturday will be my last race of the wild spring/summer campaign before a little vacation and rebuild towards the late summer/fall campaign.
Happy Riding!
