Summer break
Hey Everyone!
Writing to you from the plane as I head back east, I can say this past week has been one of the most relaxing of the year. Calling my Spring busy feels like a colossal understatement- a non-stop whirlwind of logistics, training, traveling, and racing. The hustle paid off with numerous results across various disciplines, countless lessons learned, and goals ticked off as we tackle the incredibly diverse calendar better known as MGR.
A much-needed gap in the calendar provided an opportunity for a little "vacation" in the form of a mid-season reset. I discovered a new slice of heaven in the beautiful corner of North Idaho at Tamarack Resort. My girlfriend's dad lives there, and I spent the week with them for his wedding. The days were filled with time on the trails, boating, delicious food, a few beverages, and the wonderful company of countless new friends.
It's always an “interesting” feeling as an athlete when we get the time to reset. One step back for two steps forward. Initially, it feels odd stepping away from the stress we build our worlds around. Allowing ourselves to enjoy a burger, stay up a bit later, and momentarily forget about what’s next is incredibly rejuvenating.
I still spent plenty of days on the bike, experiencing arguably the most incredible mountain bike trails I’ve ever ridden. I’ve always been a downhill bro at heart and while only with my XC bike, I still hit a few black diamond runs- let’s call it technical training for all the crit’s on the calendar. Bonus points for the altitude!!
Super excited to be back home for the big rides we have planned this month. I’ll be spending quite a bit of time in the other slice of heaven that is North Georgia, as I focus all my energy on the big gravel events in August- SBT and Garmin Gravel Worlds.
Happy riding,
MG
