A first race week

My first race week of 2024!! Really grateful to Wayne Whitesides for the opportunity to kick things off down south at Border Wars Gravel. Without a tire sponsor this year, my options are open, and while great, it's overwhelming! Speed? Grip? Protection? Knobs? Width? Etc, etc, etc. I’ve heard sections of the course down there are beyond chunky so i'll be running a WTB Raddler in a 40. Update on how things turn out next week.

While far from a target race, in the grand scheme of the season the first race of the year always brings nerves. No, I’m not lining up next to WVA or MVDP like years past but we always anticipate where our personal level is at. I’ve seen the biggest numbers of my life this winter. I'm continuing to nail down my fueling strategy, and the opportunity to execute the race routine at the smaller races brings the strongest preparation for the big ones. Practice makes perfect.

Training this week was phenomenal. Coming off a stomach virus, the early week allowed some time to find my legs again. With such variation in my calendar my training follows suit. MTB endurance + Trails Wednesday, a road 5 hour endurance Thursday, solid SpeedClub Saturday and letting things absolutely rip on APT Sunday

It's a special feeling having such a strong community that lets us truly push ourselves in a positive direction. Replicating the efforts done Sunday in a solo format would be next to impossible. 440 NP for an hour. Numbers are good.

Keeping the engine rolling just enough this week while freshening up for a Saturday race day. Let's do this.

Happy training
