Border Wars Gravel Adventure

Hey Everyone!

First win of the season in the books!

I had an absolutely fantastic time down in Franklin for Border Wars. A bit of a hectic run into the race due to a broken fork - the replacement of which didn’t show up until 5 p.m Friday night.

As European racing life has treated me to a massage and some Netflix on the eve of racing, a full bike build hours before the start was something new. As the sun set, some stress and frustration rose but eventually I had a running bike and was prepped and ready.

More often than not I have about a million things to say about race day, Border Wars was pretty simple. Things remained calm for the first hour with a few accelerations thinning our group. Riders began to drop, I missed a turn, chased back, the group reduced some more and with no one wanting to be cohesive I took things into my own hands. A hard acceleration on one of the many steep ascents of the day left me on my own, by myself with a nice 65 more miles ahead of me. A high confidence in my level kept me unperturbed by my chasers and I enjoyed the few hours of suffering on my own. The WTB Raddlers handled the gravel exceptionally with no flats on the day.

I’m very pleased with how the early season fitness is and happy with the opportunity to execute a good first race day routine.

I just made the last minute decision to head up to Southern Cross this weekend. Let's go!!

Happy Riding,

MG.
