Pace Bend Success
Hey Everyone!
I’m happy to report the fourth and fifth wins of the season here from Austin.
The Pace Bend Classic, while not the biggest of US races, has a rich history and brought a strong field of teams this year. We had over 100 in the group.
The weekend kicked off hot with a Friday night driveway crit. A long solo move left spectators in awe and me a few dollars richer, scooping up 4 of the 5 race primes. Frustrated with others' lack of cooperation and myself a bit too excited, I launched my signature solo hail mary slightly early and was caught just half a lap before the line. Disappointed but eager to really show myself the following day.
On Saturday I had a fire lit for the road race. My legs felt no pain, as I punched again and again, breaking the field into pieces before solidifying the win as I headed solo with one lap to go. 40 seconds to 2nd and over 7 minutes to the field in the 74 mile road race. See my ride here.
As you can imagine, Sunday I was the marked man. The over 100 man field had seen my ability in the previous days and not a soul was willing to cooperate. I was frustrated and maybe a bit vocal when no one rode collectively, but as others fatigue set in, a small group of us managed to break free in the final laps. With 7 riders up the road, there was still with little cooperation. An imperfect sprint left me with 3rd on the day and a win in the overall GC locked up.
The momentum is here.
Happy Riding.
